About the Program

This project involves the purchase of road signs, cones' stories and crossing to extend the road safety program. The children would bring their bikes to preschool where we would educate on bike safety, talk about the road safety signs, educate on crossing roads, read books, get the police to visit and talk about bike safety and road safety. The resources will also be shared with local schools.

Child Restraint Fitting Day in Ashfield

About the Program

This project seeks to hold a Child Restraint Fitting Day for Ashfield families with young children. An authorised restraint fitter will be available free of charge to check Ashfield families' child restraints, harnesses and booster seats for safety and correct fit. This project will benefit especially Culturally And Linguistically Diverse families who may not be aware of the new restraint fitting legislation and the use of child restraint.

About the Program

The "Buckle Up Every Time" project will promote the correct wearing and installation of child restraints. The project will involve free child restraint checking and presentations to parents and carers at child care facilities. The presentations will highlight the importance of using the correct restraint for the child's age and weight. Translators will be used for presentations with the Culturally And Linguistically Diverse community.

Drive Longer; Drive Safer

About the Program

This project will see the council deliver workshops in English, Chinese and Arabic to seniors from the local community. Workshops will provide knowledge and information about how seniors can drive safely for as long as possible and then to plan for their future mobility needs. Workshops will also provide public transport travel training and options for community transport when they are no longer licensed to drive. Many older drivers lose their licence prematurely because of lack of knowledge about how to increase skills and abilities as a driver and live in fear of isolation.

Ashfield Pedestrian and Road Users Safety Project

About the Program

This project involves multicultural, vulnerable and 'at-risk' groups (elderly, young mothers with children and young drivers) of the Ashfield local community and aims to change behaviours on the road, preventing road trauma and pedestrian injury. The project aims to create positive impact on compliance of road rules and raise awareness of road safety with educational workshops and on-the-spot face-to-face promotion.

About the Program

The 'Revved' project will be a young driver's road safety, driving and vehicle law educational day at a sporting venue for young people who have undertaken the refugee journey. Rev'ved will include guest presentations, information displays and bags, vehicle displays on road safety, vehicle legal requirements, driving laws, vehicle purchasing and insurance. A number of community organisations will present including the NSW Police and RTA.

About the Program

This project will educate children and adults about road rules on and off their bikes including when they should cross the road, who has right of way, looking over their shoulder while on a bike and how to use round abouts. About the Program

This project extends the school based drug education and road safety curriculum by providing opportunities for students to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills to reduce risk taking and develop safer celebrating strategies. The program includes a seminar day, supported by in-school activities. It incorporates factual presentations on risk taking, alcohol, drugs, safe celebrating, safe driving, vehicle safety, sharing the road with trucks and is enlivened by drama.

About the Program

The proposed project will facilitate a two day film workshop where young people participate in writing and creating an educational film focussing on safe driving strategies for young people. This resulting DVD will become a component of a series of educational tools for use in youth centres and schools that specifically focuses on issues that are unique to living in a rural environment on the fringe of South West Sydney.

This project will target parents of infants and toddlers, in particular young mothers, with tailored road safety information for this group. This project will provide a series of performances of the RTA approved show 'Street Sense' for K-6 students. The show supports the "Move Ahead with Street Sense" program by the NSW RTA. It covers pedestrian and passenger safety, safety on wheels and playing in a safe environment. It is an engaging and entertaining show punctuated with amazing circus routines. It is aimed at young children while acts as a reminder for older ones.

Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin Driver Licensing Strategy

About the Program

In Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin, local high schools will integrate a Driver Education Program into the school curriculum for year 9 and 10 students enabling them to get their Learner License. The service will also provide access to a dual control vehicle and certified supervisor so that theoretical learnings can be put into practice in a safe and controlled environment when students reach year 11 and 12 with the aim to progress to their provisional license. This project provides socially disadvantaged kids who would find it difficult to get a license the means by which to get one -increasing employment opportunities and the ability to participate in society.

This project will enable a qualified child restraint fitter to provide two days where parents and carers can have their vehicle anchor points and child restraints fitted. About the Program

Oasis in conjunction with the City of Sydney Council run a young driver program called "Drivin 4 Employment." This program allows disadvantaged young people living in the Sydney Council Area the opportunity to participate in cost free driving lessons to obtain their P1 Licence. The project will provide enhancements to the program with the addition of a Driver Safety Workshops dealing with issues such as Drugs, Alcohol, Road Rage, Driver Fatigue and Excessive Speed.
